Patrycja Walczak is a typeface and graphic designer from Poland. She graduated in 2024 with a master's degree in graphic design from the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts in PoznaΕ. In 2022, she participated in the Erasmus+ programme at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, Ireland. Inspired by 1970s industrial design, Patrycja created Poltik, a display typeface that was awarded the 2023 Gerard Unger Scholarship and subsequently expanded into a full family.
While her primary focus is type design, she also explores the role of typography in branding and communication, along with various other areas of design to fuel her curiosity and keep her creatively engaged. Patrycja is currently a junior type designer at TypeTogether and enjoys working with pottery in her free time.
Poltik is a project inspired by the retro aesthetics of Polish product design, using a nightstand clock I found in my grandfather's drawer as the catalyst. The font family takes inspiration from the well-established ethos of the past and expresses it as an interpretation clothed in a funky new form.
