Frederic Goudy designed his Lining Gothic in 1921 with an aim to add more interest to the sans serif letterforms available at the time. Steve Matteson re-imagined the single weight of capitals as a full family of light to black weights. Steve accurately drew the slight swell at the end of Goudy's letters which hints at the beginning of a serif stroke. Lining Gothic was never released commercially but is now preserved for use in packaging, branding, signage and headlines.
